About
»KAYAM is the musical duo of siblings Kim and Mike Rauss, playing what they affectionately label Falafel Pop: a fusion of the genres they enjoy, a near obsession for chickpeas and much love.
The siblings had a cross-cultural upbringing, living at various stages in England, Germany and Israel, and the wanderlust they experienced in their early years has no doubt left an impression on their approach to music making and live performance.
Kim sings and plays the Celtic Harp. Mike plays guitar, sings and builds the loops with guitar percussion and the occasional beatboxing.
KAYAM’s songs are atmospheric and compelling, offering room for improvisation on stage and a poised studio approach that makes their songs stand out.«

Atlas
Would you tell I am stronger if I walked out to the water
The tides they rise and fall so slowly as I watch the earth below me
Makes me dizzy makes me wonder how to always face the thunder
Catch the darkness in the moment
I will not be running
I open my eyes to the wonders of what I couldn’t see
And I open my wide eyes and look to the lighthouse in front of me
I open my eyes to the hunger of what I want to be
Now I walked out to the water can you see that I am stronger
Felt the earth dissolve me as I watch the tides grow slowly
Do you always face the thunder when you’re dizzy when you wonder
Catch the darkness in the moment
Sometimes I’ll be running
I open my eyes to the wonders of what I couldn’t see
And I open my wide eyes and look to the lighthouse in front of me
I open my eyes to the hunger of what I want to be
Lately
Am I dreaming or is this how it’s got to be
Feels so long now that I keep repeating all of my old ways
Lately I’ve been dreaming heavy throughout the day
And I know now what it’s like drifting between reality
Live a long long life
Trying to find my way through in a world gone mad
I don’t wait and I don’t wanna
Live a long long life
Trying to find my way through in a world gone mad
It’s all I can do
I breathe deeply
A state in which time is a distant memory
Around me images pass
A strong mysterious presence of the past
Into the world across the landscape
By the river of the desert the sky would change shape
My arms were spreading
Long enough to embrace the change within me
And to walk in my own pace
Out of the city
Into another Story
Emerge from a stream like a silence of a dream
And now I’m walking through
the ruins that I already know
And with eyes closed I continue to grow
I continue to grow
11 Days
Cheap Diesel take us along
In crystal ships on the ways to Rome
No one here speaks English but we’ve got 10 shows
Playing empty venues that nobody knows
Drinking moonlit water from a bottle
Never thought that it would be so gobble
Gobble smobble smackedi bobble
Bibedi babedi boop
I’m gonna eat some soup
The lights go down
In other worlds fairies crowned
And tricksters rolling up and down
We were gone
Not too long
Crossing roads for 11 days
A coffee Cup
We’re out of luck
Emotion runs in 11 ways
Cold nights open roads of morning
Cold morning open nights of dawning
Jingle Jangle the cosmo is turning
And we’ve been going through some times of learning
It’s hazy it’s mazy it’s hard to know
In these hazy waves of shaky shwaves
And all of the days will come and then go
Just like a rhythm I never recall
(I
don’t know what I’m talking about but that’s ok)
A gazing room
A witches broom
Come and go in 11 ways
And by the sea
We stopped for tea
Crossing roads for 11 days
Personal Song
I didn’t know you were the one who would ever put stones in my way
And now I’m writing this song cause I’ve got something to say
Yeah my mind is so tired
Yet I know that I’m thinking clearly right now
And my days are so wired
Yet I know that I keep them sorted right now
And my eyes are so tired
Yet I can see that there’s no use for these names
And my mind is so tired
Why do you keep on playing these games?
I didn’t know I didn’t I didn’t know..
I didn’t know you were the one
You were the one
Putting stones in my way
Why’d you do that
Well that was pretty uncool
Not cool at all
But it just might be OK
Hmmm maybe you’re right
Turned out the best anyway
It’s true what you say
Well isn’t life kind of weird
It’s pretty damn weird
We’re all just floating through space
Yeah what the shmaushmau
Maybe
we’re all just cucumbers (crunchy crunch)
Lets end this song
But why do you keep on playing these games
Bloom
Saw the Moon
Silver Moon
Fallen Moon
In the darkest night I see your wounds
Cuts in my conscious mind to always bloom
Where to go
How to know
Now speak to me you know that I see you
Tell me words that will me make me feel you
The locks on my windows are nothing but self-doubt
Oh father please don’t shout
For my heart is healing and my lungs are breathing
Marks on my skin never leaving
My thoughts go racing my mind is chasing
Got this invisible feeling that nothing has meaning
And even though some patterns might heal in time
I’m walking through it moving along the line
Moving along the line
Omens
This ain’t exactly the place
Where I feel I should be
Feeling a bit out of place
Gotta move on but where to
Van life is cold and sleep is hard to get
This might just all be a test
But what do the omens say
Kimbo tell me about your journey
Days pass in minutes racing
Residing in silence listening
And all the omens around me hiding
And shadows inside me darken
And all the ways before me open
Now tell me about you
Been blessed by a mermaid queen
Who’s come to visit me
Been blessed by a whale king
From the ocean
She brings compassion and love
And makes it easy to see
He brings reflections and love
And he’s a home to me
(Two Owls having a conversation in our garden)
And all the ways before me open

Intro
»This is the beginning of the journey. Starting with deep whale-like-sounds that came one day while Mike was playing around with an e-bow and slide on the guitar, it then swirls into a vortex of sounds from the universe.«
Horizon
On the banks of the river
In the dark of the night
Cold winds of winter
Echo in flight
The places you‘ll go
The faces you‘ll know
An endless mind, an endless horizon
The night skies glowing slowly with the first light
Smoke in the sky, a prayer was still alive
And the moon is shining
Shining so bright
My thoughts go silent
I listen to the night
»This is the very first song we wrote together. It came to us while we were camping on the banks of a beautiful river in the middle of nowhere in Australia. We felt very inspired by the nature and atmosphere around us.«
River
Can you feel me now
Can you hear me now
Yeah it’s an endless dream
And it’s going round and round
But I got this beat to lay down on
You got to dig it to get down on it
And I know I’m gonna see the river
I’m not gonna hide, I’m not gonna hide
Yeah I know I’m gonna see the river
Just got to decide, just got to decide
Yeah I know I’m gonna be the river
I’m not gonna hide, I’m not gonna hide
So let’s jump in and swim towards the light
I’m gonna lay me down
Shake down in Byron town
ואת הנהר אני יודע שאראה בקרוב
זה עוד לא הסוף
»One day, while jamming with Michele Grifone in Byron Bay, Australia, the chorus of this song just kind of happened. Over time it evolved into the version that we now have on the Album.«
Midnight
In the darkest night, rolling clouds below the sky
Let alone, let go, will you ever let me go
Behind hills of gold, behind the feelings never told
Let alone, let go, will you ever let me go
Watching as we fall at midnight
Watching as we fall through light
Now I can say, I know it‘s right to walk alone
I can no longer fight for something that’s out of sight
The withering sound of my sleep’s got my mind travelling too deep
It comes it goes, steadily it flows, it knows, it shows
All from which you wanted to grow
And then the figures slip through the door in features that I adore
In colours of reds and blues and all of your different hues
And tell me darling
Is there anything I could do, but to walk on, figure my truth
Heal all the pain that we‘ve both been through
The colours remain and it‘s all I can see,
Is
this the way it was meant to be
»We felt like getting a bit gangsta and wrote our first rap to this song. It is inspired by Kim‘s departure from Israel and a relationship that had ended. The guitar riff came while busking outside of a mall in Cairns, Australia.«
Mountain
And oh, we‘re falling down
And I, I‘m losing my ground
I wish I could find
Peace in my mind
The way seems long
But feels so strong
Climbing the mountain
Crawling and dancing
And rivers behind us
Valleys surround us
And oceans beneath us
Mountains surround our way
I know we
Can still grow
And will you
Let it show
In the valleys of rocks and stone
Along the rivers, miles from home
»This song was written while Kim was still living in Israel. Sitting by the stove in our childhood home, we finished the song and recorded it just a few hours before Mike flew back to Germany. ‘Cause that‘s how we roll.«
Ground
Even though I may find the answers to all thats untold
Stories in my mind keep me questioning my life
And all you need is time, only you know best what your soul is seeking
One day you will arrive and you'll know there's a place you can call your own
I will, I will, I will
I will step up a little bit further
Move up a little bit higher
With each day I move to my ground
Step up a little further
Move up a little bit higher
Settle in what i found
Even though I might be able to find the answers to all thats untold
Stories in my mind keep me from sleeping well tonight
And all you need is time, only you know best what your soul is seeking
One day you will arrive and you'll know there's a place you can call your home
I will, I will, I will
I will step up a little bit further
Move up a little bit
higher
With each day I move to my ground
Step up a little further
Move up a little bit higher
With each day I move to my ground
With each day closer to my ground
»Growing up, we moved around a lot between different countries and places. This song deals with the question of where our home is, and finding this place called home. We believe one day we will find it, and it will most likely be within us.«
Desert Pt. 1
»This is the first song we wrote in Hebrew. It‘s inspired by the Negev Desert, and the peace and self-reflection one can experience in such surroundings.«
Desert Pt. 2
Waves
Walking nowhere
My restless thoughts disappear
From sand to snow :)
From high to low
And overhead eagles roam
Across the sky going home
An ancient song comes to my ear
A distant dream soon to appear
Windows stand open
Doors have been broken
Where do they want to go
To lakes and woods and snow
»Another song that grew over time, starting in Australia at a psychedelic Christmas-jam, and evolved into this feeling of waves and wide open spaces. This is probably the second song we ever wrote together.«
Leaving
I had to leave, I couldn’t stay no more
As the mist, it joined us to the shore
As I’m crossing the ocean, I see that I’m almost there
And I can’t look back, I’ll try I wont compare
‘Cause I know, I know we always thought
And you know, you know we always fought
For this time to last
But it had to pass
And now the sound begins
And its all within
Papa words you’ve said have gone so deep
Caught up in these tides, I cannot sleep
Clouds covering the sky
I see you, your tearless cry
I open my eyes, nobody is home
»A very spontaneous creation that suddenly just happened one evening while actually trying to focus on other things. It‘s about this and that, life and stuff.«
